The group has a truly rock-oriented approach, which means uncompromised expression of what needs to be said, drawing from a diverse and inclusive foundation that is both popular and flexible. All intense and popular influences are evident in Malaspina. There’s no hesitation in blending styles that naturally and organically coexist, without pretense. I see influences ranging from Bob Dylan to Nino Bravo, from The Rolling Stones to Los Rodriguez, Jose Alfredo Jimenez to The Kinks. That’s what impresses me, there’s a little bit of everything and nothing as mere imitation. It’s definitely a bastard style. Oh, and focused, like great bands, on creating good songs rather than adhering to a specific style or sound.
